About Creative Work:

The young generation painter Agota Bričkutė was born in 1993, in Klaipėda. She graduated from Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University, Faculty of Arts in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree of Art History and Criticism. In 2017, she began to follow the path of painting and has participated in over 15 group and solo exhibitions throughout Lithuania. The author's paintings belong to private collectors in Lithuania, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United States and Chile.

The author's work is mainly focused on the genres of portraiture and landscape, with the prevailing aesthetics of Surrealism and Symbolism. Using the face or shapes of nature, Bričkutė seeks to personify people's emotional conditions, to use the canvas for visualising insights and sensations that arise in everyday life. When creating landscapes, the artist often refers to existing scenes of reality, yet stylises them, providing a symbolistic meaning, conveying parallels between human life and nature.

In her painting, the artist is particularly interested in the intuitive, automatic creative process that liberates the subconscious impulses. Therefore, the painter often uses the principle of automatism developed by the Surrealists. Spontaneously emerging imagery during the painting process develops into a symbolic and allegorical narrative, taking the viewer to an alternate space between the real and the fantasy. An equally important part of the creative process is the psychoanalytical method of free association, which enables the artist to discover the meanings hidden beneath the language of painting - the nuances of human psychology that are both relevant to the artist and to the collective.
