Eugenijus Raugas is a Lithuanian painter who lives in the densely wooded north-east Zarasai region of the country. He was born in 1965 and is a graduate of the Šauliai Pedagogical University where he majored in fine art. He teaches fine and applied art at the K. Buga high school in the town of Dusetos which is home to a colony of artists. In 1995, he and several colleagues created the small but highly-regarded Art gallery of Dusetos. Raugas sees himself as more than just a painter of landscapes - he considers nature a microcosm without the stains of civilization. Man and nature are one and the same and it is humanity's task to care for the natural world because of the important contribution it makes to our innerlife. His work is characterized by a feeling for space, colour and lightas well as the vibrational forces of the natural world that register in his consciousness. His unique and bold choice of colours gives shape to spaces and landscapes that resonate with a living quality. The painter's work has been acquired by collectors in the USA, Canada, Australia, Israel, France and other countries.
